Infinite Scroll

Have you heard about ‘Infinite Scroll’? Yes? No? Do you know what that is? Yes. You know. Either you know about it well or you know what it is but you were never conscious about it or paid attention to it. Yes, it’s that web development technique that makes you scroll endlessly on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and all your favorite social media sites. If you have seen the web in the pre-social media age and remember how the web pages used to be those days, you will realize the difference. There were web sites and then there were web pages within each site. You go through the content on the first page and then click a ‘Next’ link at the bottom of the page to see what is there on the next page. If the content was heavy on each page, you read the entire page and clicked next after that, your fatigue was quicker. If it was just pictures or light content or you just skimmed through those contents, you might be left with some more energy to see more pages. Just clicking the next button ...

Same Gray

Image
Better than me? Can't manage! Don't want to be the worse! Worse than me? Can't manage! Don't want to be with the worse! Keep looking for... Those as good as me Those as bad as me Not better than me Not worse than me Same amount of black Same amount of white Same amount of gray Even the few As gray as me Don't remain as-is As long as too long Even if they remain so Either I don't let them be so Or they don't let me be so Somehow Have never seen two same grays! Every gray is unique!

Blabbering.com

We hear so much political speeches, spiritual addresses, literary commentaries and philosophical lectures. Each of their speeches are special for their own reasons. Some speeches emit fire; Some speeches are thundering; Some speeches are full of information, Some speeches are full of satire and sarcasm; Some are like music - so sweet to hear; Some are full of quotations from all across the world. Thus, each type of speech has its own beauty. More than all these, I love the blabbering of drunkards and mentally retarded people. Some people are so gifted that anything they speak is very clear and attractive. I just love to keep quiet when they speak and watch. It's a feast to ears. It's those people who become orators when they get right opportunities. But, there is another group of people who just don't like to speak normally, but once a glass of liquid goes inside they rock. I wonder, 'Where was he keeping all this intelligence for so long?!'. So much informatio...

Good to be Good?

Image
One question that has always been haunting me from very early days of my life is - "Is it good people's planet or bad people's?". Both of them get success, happiness, peace of mind and all good things in life. There are people who remain good against all odds till the end and don't enjoy any good thing other than a good feeling that they would go to heaven. Likewise, there are the worst of the breed people who enjoy every good thing possible in their lifetime. Having seen all such lives, I have also told my loved ones, "You can't live in this society if you are too good!", just like how my well wishers told me. At the same time, you can't say that life is good for only the bad ones and bad for all good people. If you do bad things, you would surely get caught one day. Instead, it is better to be good though you may have to compromise on a luxurious life. You will never have to get caught and feel embarrassed. And, you can't say all bad peopl...

Neutrality

Image
Today, both in politics and other related public lives, people shamelessly justify and talk aloud about things that are unacceptable to anyone that has commonsense. The only reason for that is that they just look at the end benefit that they would get - after doing all their personal calculations. It's a kind of business mentality. Even businesses are being run more honestly by some people these days. It roots from two things - 1. One's own selfishness, and 2. The confidence that many other selfish people also would support their stands. Having no respect for neutrality and not knowing its importance are the root causes. Some people say that there is no place for neutrality in politics as politics in itself is about choosing one over the other. Is neutrality good? What is good for democracy? Is being a fanatic supporter of a party and its leader despite all sins that they commit until they do their murders and rapes in my own house good for democracy? Or, is being neut...

Old is Gold! New is?

Image
Every time I hear the songs of the soil They make me go mad I feel like dancing In the center of the streets The drum sound Heard in childhood The anklet sound Of all forms of traditional dance Discordant voices Of folk singers All of these Make me nostalgic The old songs I hear partly Closing the ears In cold breeze During night travels Make me crazy Even then I am not convinced With the complaint Old is cooler than new Old is gold But It's cold, too Old is always great Because Even that was new once And it came before the new Even that is a kind of gratitude But Does it become Slavery at times? So Somehow I am not okay With only old being gold Just like Saying only new is kewl...

Courage and Its Cousin

Image
Two earliest virtues that went into my mind very strongly in childhood are courage and honesty. To put it simple – “don’t fear” and “don’t lie”. But, I did learn later about fearing the fearful and lying for good – like all of you did. “Courage is not the absence of fear but conquering it”, they say. I think, most of our courage is only the absence of fear. Rather, it is the result of our failure to think of the worst – to think of what thoughtless courage could land us in. The courage that we have been having from childhood is also one such thing. We are courageous because we don’t know what would happen if we don’t fear the fearful. We don’t know that fire burns until we experience it first time or see someone else experience it or hear from someone (who has experienced it or seen it or heard it). Eventually we all learn to fear certain things out of experience (for a moment let’s ignore those who don’t do that even after enough experiences). Courage, like many other virtues, is ...

Feelings Day!

Image
It is an important milestone in my life today. I just joined my daughter in school. It’s a kind of emotionally charged day. I thought I would cry when I come out after leaving her. Luckily, they allowed my wife to stay there for sometime, which made things different. And, I ended up saving some tears for the next milestone. In the morning, when she left home, I was repeatedly reminded about the day she would leave home as a bride. I don’t know how I am going to handle that day. I don’t want to think about it. At the same time, I don’t want to avert thinking about it. It’s such a silly thing to think about it now when she is just three years old. But, I did think of today when she was born. It was indeed too early to think about it then. But, it did help me prepare for this day better. And, I never thought this day would come so fast. It has come now. It’s not the first time to have experienced this kind of feeling. There have been many such days throughout. May be, the feelin...

Traitors, Betrayals and Siblings' Rivalry

Image
All our epics, movies and stories have two characters, one hero and one villain. Hero is good and villain is bad. They are enemies. Enemy is someone whom you know very well that he would do everything against you. The epics and stories have also given an important place for traitors. Who is a traitor? How is he different from the enemy? Unlike enemy, the traitor is your own person who unexpectedly turned against you some day. The one that changed his side midway! He would have also become your enemy after that. At first, he is your traitor and then he becomes your primary enemy, more enemy than your enemy himself. What makes the traitors so special? They give the unexpected twist to the story. The story changes its course from that moment, which requires whole new approach, planning and strategizing. You don’t know much about your enemy, but you know very well about your traitor because he was your own man. On the other hand, your enemy didn’t know much about you, but has got good amou...

Respect - Too Much Is Too Bad?

Image
I don’t know how it was 50 years ago. But, what I have seen in my more than a decade long work experience is that those who have mastered the art of respecting individuals grow leaps and bounds. So are those who don’t give more respect than required too. It’s more obvious to more people today than some years ago that growth in any field is not purely out of technical competency but is decided based on many other factors including the people skills, which is one of the top most in the list. When we say people skills, it is not just respecting individuals, it also means handling them the right way. It is getting the most out of people by being good with them and treating them in the best possible manner, which also includes being tough with them when required. Needless to say, one need not be tough for the sake of being it or to test if s/he could be tough while feeling like that. I have been criticized for not being good at respecting elders in family many times as I am seen to be some...

Obsessive Observation Disorder!

Image
Observation is something that all of us human beings do on a daily basis. Those who do it more are supposed (more of self-supposition than by others!) to be more intelligent as they can foresee problems and understand hidden messages many times before the rest of the crowd does it. It has a good place in both science and philosophy. What I want to discuss about it today is not the science behind it and the philosophy about it or the benefits of doing it. It is the list of problems of doing it too much, i.e. overdoing it. I have been a victim of this many times myself. It has three major problems as far as I have observed (I want everything that I have done to be called ‘observed’, not as ‘seen’ or ‘heard’, as I feel superior about being a good observer!). The first problem that I have observed is that all those who spend good amount of their time observing the people and objects around get addicted to the act of observation. It is like any addiction. Beyond a point it gets too much an...
